Sad Monkey Hall Events Calendar

Amarillo Film Society
Sad Monkey Hall | Friday, August 2nd | 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Doors open at 6:30 PM — arrive early to grab a bite and a cold drink.
Step back in time to the golden era of Technicolor Westerns. Imagine it’s 1950, you’re in Palo Duro Canyon, and a Western epic is being filmed without drones, green screens, or AI — just dust, grit, and true cowboy grit. Ever wonder how they captured those sweeping shots of riders racing to the Lighthouse? Come find out!
We’re screening The Sundowners, a visually striking, slightly campy Western full of heart, heroics, and maybe even a little dynamite. Whether you’re decked out in your best boots-and-hat combo or rolling in as you are, you’re in for a wild ride.
Stay after the film for a special Q&A with WTAMU’s very own Professor Bryan Vizzini, diving into the film’s backstory and the magic of old-school filmmaking.

More About "The Blind"
The Blind is a metadrama referencing the 1997 hit-and-run murder of 19-year-old artist and punk musician Brian Deneke in Amarillo, Texas.
Blind /blīnd/ n. A projectile not fired in anger which failed to explode when employed but may still pose a risk of future detonation.
Compelled by her concerns about a recent surge in hate crimes and the indifference she witnesses in her own community, a woman returns to her hometown to visit a former classmate more than 25 years after the murder of his brother. Her intent: to seek his blessing to write a play about the events that culminated in his brother's tragic death and the subsequent trial that upheld the power of privilege. But as the evening unfolds and as stories, songs, and challenging perspectives are exchanged between them, the clear lines of liability begin to blur around a new allegation.
The Blind is performed with deepest thanks to Jason Crespin and the historic Amarillo Little Theatre, now beginning its 98th season, and to Jason Deneke and the Deneke family.
*Please consider becoming one of the Original 806 people who "Back The Blind" to make our London performances and mini-tour possible by making a tax-deductible donation here: https://fundraising.fracturedatlas.org/the-blind-by-parabolic-arts-impact/campaigns/7141
